Ben Cotgrove is an award-winning (Australian Cinematographer of the Year by the Australian Cinematographer’s Society in receiving the Milli Award 2024) Australian cinematographer now based in London, UK. With a diverse range of work across narrative film, commercial, promo and documentary, he enjoys blending high concept visuals with dramatic storytelling and has an affinity for telling queer and diverse narratives. His work has screened at festivals including Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), SXSW, Sydney Film Festival and the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival.
Ben completed principal photography on ‘Closing Night’, his debut feature film as cinematographer, written and directed by Sundance alumni Tim Marshall. In 2020 the short film; ‘Torch Song’ Ben shot with writer/director Stephen Lance premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival and screened at Flickerfest, St Kilda and Brisbane International Film Festivals respectively. Ben has shot and written for the highly successful queer web-series; ‘Two Weeks’ which has received over 2 million views on Youtube.
A graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), Ben received a Masters of Film majoring in Cinematography from Griffith Film School, and in 2018 he was the recipient of the John Leake OAM ACS Emerging Cinematographer Award from the Australian Cinematographer’s Society (ACS).
